Carbon steel pipes

The most widely used material in industrial piping. Available welded (ERW) and seamless to EN and ASTM standards.

Welded pipes

  • EN 10217-1 (P235GH) — pressure service up to 300°C
  • EN 10255 (S195T) — gas distribution
  • EN 10219 — structural
  • ASTM A53 Grade B — American standard

Seamless pipes

  • EN 10216-2 (P235GH / P265GH) — pressure and temperature
  • ASTM A106 Grade B — steam and high temperature
  • ASTM A333 Grade 6 — low temperature (-46°C)

Stainless steel pipes

For applications where corrosion resistance is critical: food & beverage, chemical & pharmaceutical, potable water, aggressive environments.

Grades

  • AISI 304 (1.4301) — most common, good general resistance
  • AISI 304L (1.4307) — low carbon, for welding
  • AISI 316 (1.4401) — superior resistance (chlorides, acids)
  • AISI 316L (1.4404) — low carbon, food and pharma

Polyethylene pipes (PE)

HDPE piping for gas distribution, potable water and biogas plants. Lightweight, corrosion-proof, with a service life exceeding 50 years.

Types

  • PE 100 — high strength, for pressurised gas and water
  • PE 80 — gas distribution
  • PE 100 RC — crack resistant, direct burial without sand bedding

Joining methods

  • Butt fusion (mirror welding)
  • Electrofusion (couplers)
  • Mechanical joints (PE-to-metal transition)

Sizes: OD 20 to 630 mm. SDR: 11, 17, 17.6 depending on pressure rating.

Press-fit systems

Mechanical press joining: ultra-fast installation with no welding or threading. A fitting is pressed onto the pipe with a dedicated tool, creating a permanent sealed joint.

Welded pipe is made from rolled and welded plate — more economical and adequate for low-pressure and non-critical fluid services.
What are press-fit pipes?
Press-fit systems join pipes using mechanical pressing with special fittings, eliminating the need for welding or threading. Advantages: fast installation, no hot work (ideal for ATEX zones), consistent and repeatable joint quality. Available in carbon steel and stainless steel, 15–108 mm.
What round bars does Roffia stock?
Roffia stocks carbon steel round bars (C40, C45, 39NiCrMo3) and stainless steel (AISI 304, 316, 316L) for shafts, pins, supports and general machining. Diameters from 10 to 300 mm, standard lengths 3 m and 6 m with cut-to-size service. 3.1 material certificates available on request.
When should I choose polyethylene PE pipe over steel?
Polyethylene pipes are ideal when you need: total corrosion resistance (buried services, aggressive fluids), lightweight handling on site, flexibility to follow curved routes without fittings, and a service life exceeding 50 years. They are the standard for gas networks (EN 1555), water mains (EN 12201) and biogas/biomethane plants. They are not suitable for high temperatures (max 60°C) or high pressures.
EN European or ASTM American standard — which should I choose?
It depends on the project and applicable regulations. EN pipes (10216, 10217) are the standard in Europe and are required by the Pressure Equipment Directive PED 2014/68/EU. ASTM pipes (A106, A312, A53) prevail in Oil & Gas, refinery and American-engineered projects. Roffia stocks both at its Cremona warehouse and can provide 3.1 certificates for either standard.
